It’s Springtime — Is Your Home Ready for It?

Our weather here in Northern California has been wonderful. Sunny and 67 degrees one day and 48 degrees with rain the next. For me, that is the beauty of spring time weather.

Along with the contrast of weather comes the anticipation of the rush of plant growth. A great motivator to be outside for our daily walk.

And, at the fairgrounds near us, the UC Master Gardeners of Contra Costa County, opened the Mangini Garden which is part of the Mangini Agricultural Museum. It is a permanent demonstration garden, open to the public Tuesdays from 10 am to 12 noon. Sounds like a lovely way to bring in spring!
This year, Mangini Garden will host a Great Tomato Plant Sale which reminded me of the summer my Dad, brother Jack, and I raised two acres of Beef Steak tomatoes to sell to the local Hunts Cannery. Planting more than 1200 tomato plants was tough -- picking 2 tons of tomatoes was even rougher. It is far more fun to visit the gardens and buy a few tomato plants!

That is how I will be getting ready for spring time, planting tomatoes in our garden -- but only a few!

How about you? What kind of spring time readying are you planning? Does it involve any sprucing up?
