Losing a furry loved one is painful

Joan and I have had pets almost all of our wonderful 38 years of marriage, until now. Our beloved Lexi just crossed the Rainbow Bridge, that’s what I tell myself. She was all terrier, full of energy, big risk taker (jumping over fences) and a bundle of love to come home to.

Lexi, in the past, was ready to walk any time, day or night. For the last two years, however, we had to carry her in a sling, since her back legs stopped working. Still we took her everywhere with us, in the back seat of the car, in the wagon our kids gave us, and carrying her when needed.

The three of us traveled in early December to Camellia Inn in Healdsburg. It was a great trip, our last with Lexi. She was a great traveling buddy and our trips will not be the same without her.

Guess I will now have to be even more thankful for sharing my client’s pets, while on the job. Let me just tell you about some of my client’s pets.

There was Spike, the miniature weenie dog, who had a very cranky temperament. While I was sitting on the floor, crossed legged, fixing a kitchen sink, he curled up in my lap, growling the entire time. It did make me smile and a little afraid.

And, there is Bodhi, the Tibetan terrier who is the opposite of Spike — oh so very peaceful. When I first arrive, she barks twice, lets me pet her, then settles down peacefully to watch what I do.

And, Ed’s dog, the pit bull terrier, who eagerly runs to greet me. So fun to scratch her head and scratch her rear; then off she goes to run.

Not that I am a pet sitter, but fascinatingly enough, I have taken many clients dogs for walks, let them out to potty, cleaned up their messes, and given them treats. All this adds to my joy of doing my handyman / electrical  business and is certainly added value for my clients, too.

I do love cats and dogs and I always look forward to greeting my client’s pets while on the job.

Thank you for your support and sharing your pets with me. More than ever, I wish to pet a furry loved ones head.

Here’s wishing you a happy 2019.
