Honoring our ancestors

The perfect time of year to honor your ancestors …
October is so confusing … the weather hot and toasty one day, and winter-like the next. Along with the last of the harvest of summer vegetables, pumpkins growing in fields, and Halloween decorations everywhere. It is a time of year that I enjoy.
In particular, I really appreciate the meaning behind Halloween, the sacred celebration of our ancestors. Some also celebrate Day of the Dead, All Souls Day, and All Saints Day at this time of the calendar.
Halloween and the Day of the Dead remind me of the movie “CoCo”, where living people build altars offering favorite foods in honor of their ancestors. I so appreciate remembering and honoring our ancestors.
So this year, in honor of my ancestors, I am building a mini memory garden box out of redwood to decorate our back patio. I will add geraniums, cyclamen, and small statues of my ancestor’s favorite things.
How will you remember your family and friends?
