Enjoyable DIY Garden and Yard Projects!

Do you enjoy DIY projects? How about in your yard and garden?

I am always looking for Do It Yourself (DIY) creative projects. Pouring over YouTube, The Family Handyman magazine and Google Newsfeed. I agree with the quote, “People are looking for novelty, artistic outlet and helping others”.

So for me, the novelty of new projects and the artistic talent of making them, helps make my life better and really sings to me.

One of my projects this month was making a self-watering 14-inch patio pot. For the patio pot, I put two feet of coiled perforated drainpipe at the bottom of the pot with a fill spout. The idea is to create a water reservoir, at the bottom of the pot, that wicks up water to the plants. I then added basil, parsley, oregano, and mint to the same pot. The plants look great after transplanting. The best part is that it only needs water when the reservoir is dry, once a week, after the wicking starts.

For my second project, I added two organic tomato plants to the front garden bed. I amended the soil with organic compost and 4 inches of composted mulch. Since the garden bed has its own sprinkler on a timer, the plants are thriving with new compost. Tomatoes plants are very “piggy” for water and nutrients. I have several yellow flowers on each and ONE small tomato growing. This is the second year that I have grown tomatoes. I have found it rewarding to eat organic veggies that I grow.

And today, for a client, I installed a back yard weather station, a new challenge and fascinating project for me. The client, as do I, find it so fun to see wind direction, ambient temperature, and rain measurement right from your own backyard!

Are you ready for your next project? Maybe not one that you want to do yourself? Is there some project we can help you with? Give us a call.
