Why I love Autumn

Oh, so many reasons I love Autumn.

I love Autumn, cooler temperatures, softer light, and wonderful color changes.

This last weekend I was enjoying the Autumn change with Diablo Valley Lions Club members at our fundraising yard sale. We met at “Oh Dark O’clock” at 6 am in Pleasant Hill, at Christ the King Church parking lot. We used our car lights, shining on the setup area, to see what we were
doing.

All the long-term committed members were there, way before the sun came up and until the very last item was packed up for donation.

The sun didn’t come out from behind the rain clouds for an hour. However, it quickly got into the high 70s, just right for an outside yard sale. We were outdoors, wore face masks, and still practiced social distancing. We even had a few early buyers before the 7 am starting time.

We are very thankful for members of other Lions clubs who came to support our fundraiser. They were our best customers of the day. Plus, one of those members bought lunch for everyone.

Our tables were full of everything from clothes, purses, ties, scarfs, glassware, dishes, lamps, wall art, CDs, DVDs, boat anchor, cold water waders, garage organizers, popcorn makers, Halloween decorations, and way more.

One of the items our Club President Michelle donated was hand-painted garden tiles she painted just for the fundraiser. I bought one tile saying “Love Live Laugh” as a gift for Joan and our garden.

Just to share one of the delights of the day … You may know the “fun-loving” side of me. I had even more fun promoting sales in fun ways, for instance, I took “see-through” Halloween decorations and wore them against my clothes. Looked just like huge Halloween badges.

I was also delighted with being playful with one of our members who had bought a chafing dish. I gathered the place settings to go with it … table runners, napkins, glasses, plastic flowers, all with a Halloween theme. Our member, with great humor, said “Maybe your wife Joan would love all the Halloween decorations you’ve selected!”

I find joy being with these Lions Club members. I also share my handyman skills for our event. This time, I brought my mobile workbench and tools to set up an extra display table to fit the rest of the items for display.

Please contact us if we can share our skills with you, especially with this Autumn weather change. Are you ready for Autumn?

Setting your internal time clock

Is it time to reset your internal time clock?

My wife, Joan has been listening to motivational seminars/summits for years. Recently we both listened to the Younger, Longer Summit on aging well and longevity. One speaker, The Wellness Mama, suggested sitting outside in the early morning daylight. How important it is to your health to feel nature’s time clock directly. It helps aid you in getting better sleep, setting the internal time clock.

We follow the advice daily, by moving comfy chairs into our driveway and doing our morning spiritual readings. There the three of us are, reading, having our cup of Joe, waving at our neighbors, and getting wonderful morning light. Eldred, our dog, sits at our feet, enjoying the morning sunshine, while Joan and I share our insights into our readings of the day.

Want to know what we read? It’s Not Your Money by Tosha Silver, Outrageous Openness by the same author, Beat Cancer Daily by Chris Wark, and 365 Tao: Daily Meditations by Deng Ming-Dao. We are astonished by how our daily readings help us navigate current events. How these profound writings help guide us on the path to peace and joy.

We have gotten to know our neighbors and their dogs, the paper delivery guy, those who walk early in the morning, and the gardeners. We toast our coffee with our gardeners, raising our coffee cups in salute.

I enjoy the connection and socialization during our morning readings. Much in the same way I connect with our clients while bringing them peace of mind with any home maintenance or electrical needs they may have.
