Moving is a big task, especially for an elder family member!

Hooray, Hooray, my Mother-In-Law is now only 20 minutes away in her new assisted living apartment. That is a very good thing. We are all happy that the move went so well. Not to mention, all we moved for her, fit in the apartment!

The apartment staff joked with us, “Are you sure all that you brought will fit in the apartment?” Yes, from favorite recliner to her love seat, end table, kitchen table, dressers, computer and TV with television credenza, they all fit. We have even decorated the walls with a few pictures.

It is comforting to see Mom settling in so well. She even volunteered to take care of our dog, Eldred, her grand puppy, so that we could get away for a few hours. Thank you Mom for taking care of Eldred while Joan and I attended the Diablo Valley Lion’s club installation.

I look forward to many years of fun times with Mom, gatherings, family game time, and so much more.

Moving is a challenging thing … Can we help you make your home, moving experience, and life better? Just give us a call.

The heat is upon us … what do you do to stay cool?

Have you been following the journey of my Mother-In-Law’s moving closer to us? Just in case you haven’t, Joan and I (and our dog Eldred) have been, for many weeks, helping my mother-in-law downsize from a 2-bedroom mobile home into a small assisted living apartment. That is a good thing for us all.

The trips back and forth to Auburn have been both tiring (2 hours one way) and delightful. The time in the car can seem endless. Especially for our sweet dog Eldred. She often reminds me that it is time to take a much needed break!

We have been dealing with high temperatures, too, as high as 98 degrees several of the days we were purging, packing, and getting rid of stuff. Because of the temps Joan, Eldred and I have been very careful in the way we travel. Always with the air-conditioning on, in the morning or late evening hours, and along a cooler route of the Sacramento river roads.

Thankfully, Mom has very efficient A/C in her mobile home so we are comfortable while sorting and filling up the boxes. Next weekend will be moving day for her when we load up the U-Haul truck with all her belongings that will fit into her new apartment.

There have been many lessons learned from helping Mom, one of which, for me, is …  I know I must eliminate some of the 20 years of accumulated stuff I have at our home. Reducing stuff is not a big part of my nature, so I will keep you posted about how successful I am.

Hope you keep cool. Give us a call if you need some cool ideas or help with making those happen.
